Title: "Examining Freeman-Gallwey's assessment of Hirsutism Disease Diagnosis; Modification and Optimization Recommended"
Abstract: Hirsutism is abnormal growth of terminal hair within the areas sensitive to Androgen in women with a manly pattern that occurs on the surface of the body. Other than causing problems to beauty, more often Hirsutism is the only existing factor in most of neoplastic diseases. From among the causes of Hirsutism, Poly CysticOvarian syndrome (PCO),plays the most powerful role since Androgens production increase by the ovaries has been observed specifically in the case of this disease. This study was conducted by implementing descriptive-analytic method upon 150 volunteers, girls & women, suffering from Hirsutism who had resorted to ShahidFallahi sub-specialty clinic in Tehran.Through this study the applicants were provided with questionnaires containing tailored and essential questions and the intensity of hair growth was scored on the basis of Ferriman - Gallwey system. Blood samples of the volunteers were obtained and after the relevant data was analyzed and used for statistically analyzingK-squaredtest upon theircollection by SPSS software. The reports on findings extracted from the Life Style 1 & 2 questionnaires indicate that various factors such as age, race, marital status, obesity, nutrition, stress and ...etc. affect Hirsutism. Also taking into account the pathobiological (laboratory-based) results, it seems that diagnosing and detecting Hirsutism on the basis of Ferriman Gallweytable is not a suitable solution in Iran and this table should get adjusted and revised.
